ReportCaster consists of the following components:
ReportCaster Development and Administration Interface. The ReportCaster Development and Administration Interface uses Java™ Swing applet technology and requires a Sun Java VM plug-in 1.4.2 or higher. From this interface, you can:
Note: Only ReportCaster Administrators can create ReportCaster users and groups, access the Library Management interface, and access the ReportCaster Server Configuration tool.
ReportCaster Scheduling Wizard and HTML User Interface. The Managed Reporting Analytical User can create a schedule for Standard Reports or their own My Reports using the ReportCaster Scheduling Wizard, which can be accessed from the Business Intelligence Dashboard and Managed Reporting Domains environments. Alert reports cannot be scheduled using the ReportCaster Scheduling Wizard (to create an alert schedule, you must use the ReportCaster Development and Administration Interface). Once you have created the schedule, you can access the ReportCaster HTML User Interface to edit the properties of the schedule, delete the schedule, or run a log report to obtain information about the schedule. Additionally, you can purge log records to conserve space in the log file, check the status of scheduled jobs that are in the ReportCaster Distribution Server queue, and create, update, and delete an Execution ID, which is a valid user ID that is used to run a schedule on a specified server.
Managed Reporting Developers and Administrators can be configured to access the Scheduling Wizard and HTML User Interface from the Managed Reporting Applet User Interface rather than the ReportCaster Development and Administration Interface. For more information about this configuration, see Configuring Access to the ReportCaster User Interfaces.
For more information about the ReportCaster Scheduling Wizard and HTML User Interface, both of which use dynamic HTML technology, see the ReportCaster End User's Manual.
Report Library. The Report Library enables you to store and manage content distributed by ReportCaster for rapid retrieval and future use. For more information about the Report Library, see Report Library.
ReportCaster Console. The ReportCaster Console is a set of HTML pages and JavaServer Pages™ (JSP™) that enable ReportCaster Administrators to maintain and view schedule and log information, globally change values stored in the ReportCaster Repository, and manage the ReportCaster Distribution Server processing of schedules for execution. For more information about the ReportCaster Console, see ReportCaster Console.
ReportCaster API. There is a full ReportCaster API that employs both Java technology and Web Services. The ReportCaster API provides complete ReportCaster functionality for self‑service users. The ReportCaster API is fully upward compatible with the ReportCaster Bean, Servlet, and Subroutine APIs, and is partially backward compatible. For more information about the ReportCaster API, see the ReportCaster API Developer's Reference manual.
